By BBN Staff: New Belize city Deputy Mayor, Oscar Arnold, in an interview with Love News laid out his plan for maintaining an effective city council and shared some concerns over a contract signed by the previous council.
Arnold said his background in finance and analytics will be helpful to the council as it tries to get its finances in order as well as generating enough revenue for budgetary surpluses. He said the council is also looking at the issue of taxes and balancing between enforcing tax collection while ensuring a fair tax system.
Arnold also said the City Council is reviewing a contract signed by the previous council for remedial works. According to Arnold, the previous council had procured some $400,000 but due to “mismanagement” of funds, the work done was inferior and the drain covers which were replaced began breaking apart soon after.
