BBN Staff: Today, Commander of Eastern Division South, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett and his staff took 25 children from various South-side neighborhoods in Belize city on a tour to different farms in Maskall village, Belize district.
Gillett says that the purpose of the trip was to open up the minds of young people to see that there are many alternatives to crime.
The children saw vegetable production in sweet peppers, tomatoes, watermelon and they also saw the cheese making process.
Gillett said he is grateful to the parents for allowing their kids to be part of the tour and to Minister Edmond Castro for providing lunch and beverages for the children.
Gillett is planning numerous activities to engage young people over the next few days and weeks.
“This clearly shows poverty is a state of mind,” he stated.
