By BBN Staff: Belize Infrastructure Limited (BIL) issued a statement today saying that it dispels any notion that the Belize Civic Center Management Contract is in any legal breach of the laws of Belize.
BIL says that in response to the “baseless assertions in certain media quarters with respect to the Belize Civic Center Management Contract signed on March 19th 2018 with Apex Event Services – Belize, Ltd.”, BIL ensured full legal review and approval from the Office of the Solicitor General prior to final contract signing.
It strenuously takes issue with and dispels the political mileage sought that there is a requirement under or any breach of the Finance & Audit (Reform) Act.
The Finance & Audit (Reform) Act mandates requirements of the Government of Belize (GOB) when GOB borrows monies or when GOB guarantees as additional security for private entities in the event that they cannot make repayments to the banks, none of which is the case within the Belize Civic Center Management Contract.
BIL says that it will be publishing its project contracts on the BIL website, inclusive of the Belize Civic Center Management Contract, allowing full and fair access to the general public at large in who’s interest freedom of information shall best serve.
The BIL website www.bil.gov.bz will be launched and fully accessible on Monday, April 16, 2018.
