By BBN Staff: The Football Federation of Belize announced this week that women will be getting their own league in the near future.

FFB Cruz Gamez said that the project is ambitious, catering to grassroots and elite female players across the country, with the hope of one day establishing a professional league in Belize.

Iris Centeno, Director of Women’s Football, explained that the FFB has approved her proposed budget for the league, which includes uniforms, first aid kits, salaries for referees, travel stipends, and financing for tournaments.

” Our league has a long-term objective; our objective is that the national amateur women’s league becomes independent. Right now we are fully dependent on the FFB,” Centeno said.

She noted that as the league progresses the goal is to have its own membership and its own body of executives running the league. She said that the target is to achieve independence by 2020.
