Social Security Board wants to increase workers contributions

Posted: Friday, April 13, 2018. 3:35 p.m. CST.

By BBN Staff:Last year, the Belize Social Security Board (SSB) began consultations around the country on a proposal to increase contributions which will in turn increase worker benefits.

The General Manager of  Corporate Customer Relation Services, Chandra Nisbet Cansino in an interview with 7 News Belize informed that SSB have finally completed the consultations.

Cansino said that the SSB is reviewing the proposal and are waiting on a response from the worker groups and the worker representatives.

When the response is given, and if they agree, the SSB will then take its proposal to Cabinet. If no agreement is reached, they will have to go back to the bargaining table and get a consensus in order to move forward.

2001 was the last time that Belize’s SSB contribution system was changed.
