By BBN Staff: Belize is strengthening its capacity to establish and apply quality assurance and quality control of its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Management system through the support of the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat.
This week, experts of the UN Climate Change Secretariat will facilitate Belize in its process of conducting an internal review of emissions data and help to build the capacity of local experts and practitioners involved in the process of the preparation of national GHG inventories.
Through this initiative, Belize will complete its first-ever in-country voluntary quality assurance of a national inventory system and national inventory report from a non-Annex I Party from the Latin America and the Caribbean region.
As part of the initial exercise, Belize’s national GHG inventory team will partake in the scientific peer review of Belize’s GHG inventory management process.
This internal review is a crucial step for Belize’s inventory compilation team.
It allows Belize to assess its own GHG inventory process and determine if their emission calculation methods meet international guidelines.
During their visit to Belize, members of the UN – Climate Change Secretariat (UNFCCC), led by Dominique Revet, Valentina Slivinska of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Paulo Cornejo of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), are expected to discuss other quality assurance and quality control mechanisms with the Belize’s GHG inventory team.
