By BBN Staff: BBN has been reliably informed that teachers at Gwen Lizarraga high school in Belize City are currently engaged in a sit out and there are no classes in session.
We understand that this is as a result of the principal’s decision to keep former Belize City Councilor, Alifa Elrington, as its community representative on the board of management.
This comes despite teachers reportedly calling for her to be removed as she is no longer an elected official following her party’s loss in the March 7 election.
An elected Belize City Councilor normally sits on the school’s board.
New Councilor, Ryan Elijio, has been selected by the current City Council to sit on the board.
According to teachers, they are dissatisfied with some of the decisions and actions by the former board.
