Posted: Sunday, April 22, 2018. 7:59 pm CST.

BBN Staff:  While Cuba has a new president, who is preparing to do new things in the country, friendly relations with Belize will remain unchanged, according to to Cuban Ambassador to Belize Lissette Perez.
Perez said that one of Cuba’s priorities is to maintain its relations with countries within the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) of which Belize is a part. She emphasized that Caribbean countries share the Caribbean sea, and many similarities with Cuba, making it important to keep relations strong.

“That is why we will continue to provide our expertise, our scholarships in terms of medicines, the cooperation in the same sectors and others because it depends on the necessities of our brothers and sisters of CARICOM countries,” Perez said.

Cuba’s former vice president, 57-year-old Miguel Diaz-Canel, became the country’s first president who doesn’t have the last name Castro in over 50 years, on Thursday, April 19.
