The event is organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright worldwide.

World Book day was established in 1995 by UNESCO.

Authors, illustrators and book enthusiasts celebrate the day by having reading events to encourage reading in public and especially among students.

More than 100 countries celebrate Book day and Book Week.

World Book and Copyright Day celebrations have inspired lots of professional organizations from various countries to receive assistance from UNESCO. The day is celebrated to promote education among young people as well as people living in underprivileged sections.

Students are also awarded on Book Day for their reading performances and writings about peace, tolerance, respect, traditions and culture.

Last week, the Belize Book Industry Association celebrated Book Week by having reading activities in Cayo and Caye Caulker.

The public is encouraged to feed their minds with knowledge, or reading for pleasure and read to their children to develop their language and vocabulary.
