By BBN Staff: On Friday, April 20, at the Guatemalan parliament, Congressman Fernando Linares presented a bill to promote the strengthening of relations between Guatemala and Belize.
The bill directs the Guatemalan ministries and state authorities to implement and conduct development projects in the communities along the Adjacency Zone and to negotiate with Belizean authorities to “facilitate the immigration procedures to enter that territory.”
Linares explained that the bill would comply with the provisions of their constitution, which notes that
the government of Guatemala is mandated to promote social, economic and cultural relations with the population of Belize.
Linares believes that it is an important aspect of their responsibility and as such it should be executed.
