By BBN Staff:  Police have made an arrest in connection with the murder of Jason James Belencio.

Police believe that a 16-year-old minor was the shooter.

Yesterday, the minor appeared in the Belize City Family Court to be arraigned.

The media could not be present for the hearing. The minor was remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility.

Ten days ago, Belencio was walking on Lovely Lane in Belize city when he was shot five times.

He died on the spot.

Sources in the community said he was ambushed by two gunmen.

Belencio’s murder has been linked to the ongoing rivalry between the Majestic Alley and Victoria street “Jungle” gangs.

He was reportedly executed for his connection with some members of the Majestic Alley gang.

Days before the father of three was killed, Marcia Downs, a mother of two was shot dead.

It was reported that she was executed for her connections with members of the Jungle gang.

Since the start of 2018, the rivalry between the two groups has caused a carnage on Belize city’s north side.

The first person to be killed this year was reputed Jungle “boss”, Leon Garcia, who was stabbed dead while walking home from a night club.

Steven Flowers, a resident of Majestic Alley, was remanded to prison for his murder months later.
