By BBN Staff: This evening just about 5:45 hailstones blessed Belmopan as it accompanied the Friday evening rain that fell in the Capital City.
Public officers and Belmopan residents reported to BBN that the small balls of ice fell for approximately 10 minutes and fell over many parts of the City.
‘Hail’ or ‘hailstones’ form when thunderstorms are strong enough to produce water droplets below the freezing level, thereby forming ice that looks like a very small stone. The process causes additional water to freeze onto the small ‘hail’ allowing it to grow larger and larger. Eventually, the ‘hailstone’ becomes too heavy and fall to the ground along with the accompanying rain.
BBN did not confirm if ‘hailstones’ fell in other parts of the country.
Readers are welcome to indicate in the comments section below or on Facebook whether ‘hailstones’ fell in their neck of the woods.
