Mayor Wagner says UDP CITCO was not paying SSB deductions or taxes

">By BBN Staff:In a press conference held yesterday, Belize City Mayor, Bernard Wagner, made some damning allegations against his predecessors.

According to him, since August 2017, the previous UDP led council did not make any payments to the Income Tax Department or Social Security Board (SSB) on behalf of its almost 500 employees. This is even though the council has made the deductions from the salaries of its employees.

According to Mayor Wagner the amount owed to Income Tax hovers near $200,000 and the amount owed to SSB amounts to near $50,000.

Mayor Wagner also alleged that his predecessors did not pay Government Sales Tax (GST) and so the council owes millions.

He explained that the GST owed in relation to transactions with Belize Waste Control stood at $2.4 million.

GST owed for transactions with Belize Maintenance Limited amounted to $2.7 million.
