By BBN Staff: Accomplished cyclist, Brandon Cattouse, has been handed a provisional suspension from the Belize Cycling Federation after his lab results tested positive for a substance known to be used as a performance enhancer.
Cattouse tested positive for a substance called recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). It is known to treat anemia in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or for chronic kidney disease, but is often used as a performance-enhancing drug.
The sample was taken following Cattouse’s participation in the Valentine’s Classic on February 11. The sample was tested at the U.C.L.A. reference lab.
The Cycling Federation is now awaiting results from the Central American Regional Anti-Doping Organization.
