Darrell Bradley: Politically entrenched public service is a failure

Posted: Tuesday, May 1,  2018. 6:52 a.m. CST.

By BBN Staff: Former Belize City Mayor, Darell Bradley is known for his personal viewpoints and expressions regarding a number of national issues, some of which are not on par with his party’s beliefs.

Yesterday, in an interview with News 5, Bradley was asked about the city administrator Candice Miller’s contract.

Bradley said that the city council promoted tenure at City hall is to ensure that the staff is protected especially when there is a change in government.

The former mayor added that it is not the right of the people who are elected to fire people and place who they want.

He said that having a politically entrenched public service and a politically entrenched municipal government is destructive to Belize and an absolute failure.

“It is a problem both from the P.U.P. and the U.D.P.   When you get elected you fire people and you put people in there who you want.  That is wrong, that is immoral, that is a sin,” Bradley said.

The city administrator Candice Miller currently remains on suspension after being accused of signing off on several shady payments by the new PUP City Council including a food bill allegedly racked up by Darell’s father, Joe Bradley.

Darell also refuted the allegations that his dad racked up the bill.
