By BBN Staff: Yesterday, Commander of Eastern Division Region 1, Sr. Supt. Howell Gillet and his staff took 32 children from various neighborhoods in the area to a football game between Roaring Creek and Camalote’s under 13 football teams.
The children are from the Mesopotamia, Collet and Queen’s Square neighborhoods.
Gillett says that he believes that young people can be assisted by engaging them in sports.
Minister of National Security, John Saldivar was at the game and he encouraged the children to remain positive and keep playing sports.
Saldivar shared his experiences on how he has used sport to transform the lives of many young people in the Belmopan area, many of whom have excelled nationally and internationally.
Saldivar said he fully endorsed the initiative.
Gillett said he is grateful to the parents for allowing their children to be part of this initiative and to the management of all the teams involved.
“We will continue to engage our young people with the view to change a generation,” Gillett stated.
