By BBN Staff: Representative of the Organization of American States’ (OAS) Mechanism for Follow-up on the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC) are in Belize as part of a review process for the preparation of an anti-corruption report on the country.
The objective of the visit is to obtain, clarify, and supplement the information provided by Belize in its response to the questionnaire for the 5th Round of Review of the mechanism.
The visit is expected to provide the MESICIC Committee of Experts with complete and objective information for the preparation of a report, which will review the country’s legal framework, its compliance with the provisions of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption that are to be reviewed in this 5th Round, and follow-up of the recommendations issued to Belize in the final report of the Second Round of review.
It is also expected to indicate challenges by Belize in implementing the provisions of the Convention and its technical cooperation needs.
During the visit, a representative from Grenada, as a member of Belize’s review subgroup is participating, with the support of the OAS General Secretariat, in its capacity as the MESICIC Technical Secretariat.
Meetings are being held with government authorities of Belize, as well as with members of civil society, academics, and professional organizations during the visit.
