2 Guatemalans and a Belizean minor detained for .38 gun and ammo

BBN Staff: Yesterday Independence Police arrested 2 Guatemalans and a Belizean minor in the Maya Mopan area of the Stann Creek District.

According to reports, an operation was being conducted in the area and just about a mile south of Maya Mopan village, authorities encountered 3 persons seated under a thatch shed.

The persons were identified as Jose Navas,51, Domingo Gonzalez, 51, Guatemalan and a 15-year-old Belizean minor — all residents of Santa Cruz village in Stann Creek.

Police searched the three men but nothing incriminating was found. However, a further search in the immediate area resulted in the discovery of a .38 revolver with wooden handle containing five live rounds of ammunition in its barrel.

Police also found (3)12 gauge cartridges.

Authorities have since detained all three persons pending charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
