By BBN Staff: Yesterday, Minister of National Security, John Saldivar met with two consultants from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) at his Belmopan office to discuss using sports to prevent delinquency in youths.

The two representatives from the IDB were Dr. Amapola Ruiz, consultant and specialist in Delinquency Prevention and Claudio Magnifico, consultant and Olympic Education Expert.

The IDB consultants briefed Saldivar on how intertwining education and sports could help be used as a preventative measure to delinquency among youths.

Their findings were based on studies being carried out in Honduras and Guatemala.
Saldivar shared his own experiences and explained that his football club has incorporated many sporting disciplines and has changed the lives of many young people.

A follow up meeting is scheduled within a month’s time to review the results of the assessment done by the two representatives.

Saldivar was accompanied in the meeting by Commander of Eastern Division region one Howell Gillett.
