By BBN Staff: Today the world is celebrating World Red Cross Day.
In Belize, where the Red Cross has been operating since 1950, the theme is “Memorable smiles from around the world.”
Director General of Red Cross in Belize, Lily Bowman, issued a statement on today’s celebration saying today her volunteers “have been visiting schools and reaching out to young students to build awareness of the work the Red Cross to commemorate this day.”
She added that in Belize’s rural communities, her staff and volunteers “have been building safer, healthier and more resilient communities through projects.”
She said that this is to make communities more responsible, proactive and confident to address their needs.
Bowman explained that in the face of adversity, her team has exuded selflessness and care for others.
She thanked volunteers countrywide for the work they do for those most in need.
In closing, Bowman asked Belizeans to reflect and share how the Red Cross has put a smile on their faces by providing assistance in time of need or by the programs and projects it has implemented.
