Hopkins Mango fest coming soon

BBN Staff:Hopkins Mangu (mango in Garifuna) Fest will be held on June 2 and 3 in Hopkins village.

Hopkins celebrated the opening of the mango season with a free two-day family-friendly festival that showcases unique culinary delights of Hopkins, its culture, music, and community spirit.

Registration for booths for the Mango Fest will be held on Friday, May 11.

Madisco is sponsoring prizes for the “best food” at a booth and the winner of “best decorated” booth will receive a free booth at the 2019 festival.

The festival will feature food booths from Belize’s own Chef Sean Kuylen, Tugusina Garifuna, and Baha Fiesta, which will include delights including chicken wings with mango sauce, mango pies, mango smoothies, whole roasted pig with rice noodles and spring rolls, mango chutneys, sliced mangos and much more!

Booths to showcase jewelry, painting, textiles, and other locally made items will also be present at the event.

There will also be a kid’s zone where Ozzy the Clown will entertain children who can also get face paintings.

The many activities for the two-day festival includes dory fishing competition, yoga sessions, children’s story time, kayak race, greasy pole and a rum/mango cocktail competition hosted by Travellers liquors.

Tina’s Kitchen is also hosting a Dashiki competition.

Music and entertainment include Paranda music (Belize’s version of the blues,) Caribbean rhythm, Reggae, and much more.

A few of the confirmed artists include Lloyd Augustine, Dunri Yurumein, C-Wills, Bredda David, Griga Boyz, Turtle Shell Band and Pen Cayatano, Sweet Pain, and MohoBob.

The goal of the Hopkins Mangu Fest is to promote Hopkins as a tourist destination in a fashion that builds on Hopkins’ uniqueness and promotes cultural preservation by featuring authentic Garifuna food and music through a clean, wholesome, culinary and culturally fun festival.

It also provides economic opportunities during a time that has traditionally been referred to as the slow season.

The public is invited to attend this family oriented mango-full event!
