By BBN Staff: Every year on May 17, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) celebrate World Hypertension Day.
This year it is being celebrated under the theme, ‘Know your Numbers’ with the goal of increasing awareness on the dangers of high blood pressure and ways to prevent it.
The Ministry of Health in partnership with PAHO and the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) is organizing a forum with local chefs to promote the reduction of sodium and salt in the preparation of food.
The objective of the forum is to have cooks share their experiences in food preparation as well as inform them on health risks directly related to hypertension in Belize.
The forum will take place tomorrow at the ITVET Compound in Belize City starting at 2p.m.
The Ministry is advising the public to reduce the risk of hypertension by reducing salt intake, eating fresh natural foods, exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight, and not smoking.
