Battle for Albert Constituency heats up; Paul Thompson endorsed by Albert’s Committee

Posted: Friday, May 18, 2018. 2:18 pm CST.

BBN Staff: Today is the closing date for applications for PUP candidates to contest the standard bearer position for the Albert Division in Belize City.

The PUP Albert division executive committee has written to their Party’s Chairman, Henry Charles Usher expressing their unwavering support for the former standard-bearer, Paul Thompson.

The executive cites that Thompson represented the Albert division in the 2015 snap general elections and was dedicated to the campaign in the recently held city council elections.

This is despite the intention and interest of Senator Valerie Woods to contest the position for the Albert Division.

In a social media post, Woods said that trying to bully her or scare her is not going to work and she will not take another division.

Woods also said, “You don’t get to tell me where to run when to run, and how high to jump. I’m nobody’s puppet. Politics for those men who already are on their nasty attacks has less to do with their interest of people and more about their own self-interest and preservation.”

The Albert Division is currently represented in the National Assembly of Belize by UDP politician Tracy Panton.
