By BBN Staff:Reports reaching BBN newsroom are that yesterday evening around 5, members of the Guatemalan army, police and media personnel approached Belizean authorities at the western border to inquire about the new fence facilities that Belize is adding to its border.
On Sunday, Guatemalan and Belizean media outlets reported seeing an increase in Belizean soldiers at the western border.
On Monday, the Government of Belize announced the commencement of a project at the border to improve the security and efficiency at the western border crossing.
On Wednesday, National Security Minister, John Saldivar visited the border to take a look at the fencing project.
The works include improvements to fences, gates, and other border security features. The project is coordinated in conjunction with the Belize Border Management Authority.
It is expected to take no more than six to eight weeks to complete.
The works are not expected to disrupt the flow of traffic at the border.
