Teacher’s Day 2018

BBN Staff:Hundreds of teachers from all over the country gathered at the Belize Civic Center today for the national celebration of Teacher’s Day, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education.

The event featured remarks from Elena Smith, President of the Belize National Teacher’s Union and Carol Babb, Chief Education Officer, as well as musical entertainment from Supa G and Enerstine Carballo. For teachers that did not attend the festivities at the civic, there were various other events countrywide that schools planned to show appreciation for their teachers.

As the day is not regarded as a “holiday,” those teachers that did not go to the civic had to have their activities in school. Earlier this month teachers had considered boycotting the event due to a pending salary deduction; however, that action was called off as the decision to make the deductions were rescinded.

BBN takes this opportunity to wish all teachers countrywide a Happy Teacher’s Day.
