Belize Audubon Society hosts 49th Annual General Meeting

Posted: Tuesday, May 29, 2018. 10:25 am CST.

BBN Staff: The Belize Audubon Society (BAS) held its 49th Annual General Meeting on Friday May 25, at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel.

Belize Audubon Society members from across Belize came together to share in the achievements of the organization for the year 2017 and to elect members of the Board.

Key achievements for the year of 2017 included: acquisition of a marine vessel to aid operations at Half Moon Caye/Blue Hole Natural Monuments, upgrades to the access road of Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, SMART Training, and successful implementation of both formal and informal environmental education programs in summer camps, classroom visits and visitations to BAS co-managed protected area in 2017.

In addition, highlights of BAS’ marine and terrestrial research and monitoring were shared.

Proposed membership amendments were also presented for a vote.

The amendments include a condensation of current membership categories to alleviate the registration/outreach process, by absorbing eleven categories into six; the changes will take one transition year to come into effect.

Following the amendments, elections were held.

At the close of the AGM, the elected Board of Directors of the Belize Audubon Society for the year 2018 – 2019 were presented:

Ernest Raymond Sr., President

Mike Heusner, 1st Vice President

Carlton Young, 2nd Vice President

Simon Reardon Smith, Treasurer

Jamal Andrewin, 2nd Secretary

Lascelle Tillett, Director

Kevin Geban, Director

Randal Taylor, Director

Julie Robinson, Director

Virginia Burns-Perez, Director

Earl Green, Immediate Past President

Newly elected persons were Mariana Ancona, director and Janelle Chanona, director. The post of 1st Secretary is vacant.

The Belize Audubon Society thanked past board directors who served the society.

BAS also thanked all donors who contributed generous gifts for prizes at the event.

The Belize Audubon Society encourages all Belizeans to become stewards of the environment by becoming members today.
