By BBN Staff: People’s United Party (PUP) hopefuls looking to represent the part in Belmopan, Patrick Andrews and Arthur Saldivar, have both been rejected from running for the party in the consituency.
Andrews rose to prominence when he represented the PUP in the 2015 general election.
In that showing, he lost miserably to his opponent, incumbent area representative, John Saldivar.
Andrews applied to represent the PUP in the next national election but according to sources, his application was rejected.
BBN understands this is so because he “abandoned” the division following his last defeat.
Saldivar was also defeated when he was the party’s representative in the Belize Rural North constituency.
BBN has confirmed that the party has lifted a suspension that was placed on Saldivar by former party leader, Francis Fonseca.
And so, with the suspension lifted, Saldivar will have to spend two years on probation before he can represent the party.
BBN can confirm that retired military official, Oscar Mira, is one of three person who received approval to represent the constituency.
The trio will have to battle in a convention scheduled for July 1.
Mira is also a reported ally of current PUP leader, John Briceno.
