BBN Staff:  BBN reported last night that around 9, police received information about a shooting incident in Esperanza village and responded to the scene where it was revealed that Joseph August, a resident of Esperanza Village, Cayo had reportedly been shot.

August was inside a yard when he was approached by a gunman on a motorcycle, who fired several shots towards him – five of which hit him to his upper body. He was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Upon police’s examination of the scene, (12) expended shells and (1) live 9mm rounds were discovered.

The motive of the shooting has still not yet been ascertained but, it was revealed to BBN that August had recently been released from prison for an alleged murder charge; whether this is linked to the incident is unknown.

Police currently have no suspects, but investigations are ongoing.
