By BBN Staff: Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) yesterday announced that they won the National Energy Globe Award for their Community Researchers Program.
TIDE’s Community Researcher Program has empowered 25 young community members to gain experience in marine and terrestrial research while enhancing stewardship and making an income to supplement their livelihoods.
The program helps to train the next generation of Belizean conservationists and participants in the two-week training program receive comprehensive training in SCUBA diving, various environmental monitoring techniques, ecology, and safety.
Many of the youth have transformed their lives and are either employed or furthering their studies in natural resource management careers.
Annually, over 2000 projects are submitted by over 182 participating countries and the Energy Globe Award is today’s most prestigious environmental prize.
The Energy Globe Award was founded in 1999 by Wolfgang Neumann of Austria and is one of today’s most prestigious environmental awards.
