By BBN Staff: Belizeans across the country swiftly moved into action collecting and donating items to assist the victims of Guatemala’s catastrophic Fuego Volcano. On social media, Guatemalans have been expressing their gratitude to the Belizean community for the donations.

Today, a bus full of food items and clothing from Ladyville village arrived in Melchor to distribute the donations.

The Guatemalan volcano relief team in Benque Viejo del Carmen has also collected numerous items from across Belize. The group will ship off the items to Guatemala on Wednesday.

Breaking Belize News staff also contributed to the victims of the ‘Fuego Volcano’ today.

The death toll has risen to 109 as a result of the eruption of Fuego Volcano on Sunday.

The eruption on Sunday was the deadliest in decades since it sent rivers of lava into villages. Over 1.7 million Guatemalans were affected by the eruption.

Due to the hazardous conditions, search and rescue efforts were formally suspended on Thursday.

The United States announced on Thursday that it was also sending financial resources and emergency aid to Guatemala.
