4-month-old baby accidentally shot by father with pellet gun

BBN Staff:  Yesterday, police visited the Southern Regional Hospital where they saw a 4 month old baby of Gales Point Village, with an apparent gunshot wound to the back.

The mother of the child, Tyreeka Welch, 18, reported to authorities that while at home with her baby and common-law husband,  Lincoln Dwehene, 19, (who is also the father of the child),   Dwehene went into their bedroom for a pellet gun.

Not realizing that the safety latch of the gun was turned off, the pellet gun fired off inflicting a gunshot wound to the baby’s right lower back.

Baby Dwehene was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital and later to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for treatment.

Investigations are ongoing.
