By BBN Staff: A four month old baby from Gales Point village was shot to the back reportedly by his father in an accident with a pellet gun on Saturday.
According to police, Tyreeka Welch, 18, the baby’s mother reported that Lincoln Dwehene, 19, the baby’s father aimed the pellet gun at the child and pulled the trigger but did not realize the gun was loaded.
The safety was also off and when Dwehene pulled the trigger, the child was shot to the lower back.
The baby was taken the Southern Regional Hospital and then transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she is listed in stable condition.
Police are investigating and Dwehene may be charged depending on the certification on the child’s medical form.
The pellet gun is not considered a firearm, so investigators will be seeking advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in proceeding with the matter.
