Police seek 2 suspects for shooting of police sergeant

By BBN Staff:  According to police, two suspects are being sought for the shooting of police sergeant, Shawn Walton, 43, which happened on Victoria street in Belize city on June 9.

Walton was reportedly off duty and in his own personal vehicle waiting for a friend, when a series of gunshots rung off.

He felt a burning sensation in his arm and realized that he had been shot.

This incident happened approximately 150 feet away from a police checkpoint located at the corner of New road and Victoria street.

The culprits escaped down Victoria street on to North Front street.

Walton was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he was treated and discharged.

At the scene police recovered several .9mm expended shells.

Police are investigating, however, it is unclear if Walton was the intended target as several people were in the vicinity at the time of shooting.
