San Estevan villager drowns while swimming in river

By BBN Staff:  Melvin Omar Pineda Gutierrez, 19, a Honduran national residing in San Estevan village, Orange Walk drowned today while swimming in the river near the village ferry.

Gutierrez was found dead in the river around 1:30 p.m. when police arrived at the scene.

Investigations revealed that around midday, he jumped off the ferry to go swimming and had not resurfaced.

There were no signs of violence observed on his body.

The body now awaits a post-mortem examination at the Northern Regional Hospital
