Mexican authorities to conduct inspections on vehicles entering Mexico

Posted: Tuesday, June 12, 2018. 6:48 pm CST.

By BBN Staff:   The Ministry of Transport today informed the Belizean public that commencing Wednesday, June 13 to Friday, June 15, 2018, checking inspections will be carried out by Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation.

The inspections will be done to promote the registration of Belizean commercial vehicles entering Mexico.

These operations will take place close to Subteniente López on Route 186 (Escarcega- Chetumal highway) off Chetumal.

The inspections are intended to encourage Belizean drivers to register and to comply with requirements which are in line with standard international procedure.

Mexican authorities have assured the Belizean authorities that no fines or sanctions will be imposed during these particular inspections on Belizean drivers and vehicles.

However, by the end of the warning period, all Belizean vehicles and drivers doing international cargo and passenger services in Mexico must have the corresponding registration, license, and current insurance.

Belizean drivers will be given information brochures (in English) about the procedures to be followed for the registration and the acquisition of insurance.

The requirements apply to commercial vehicles entering Mexico, as well as buses, passengers vans, and freight transportation.

The Ministry of Transport notes that similar requirements apply to Mexican commercial vehicles entering Belize.
