By BBN Staff: On June 11, 2018, around 12 p.m., police were called by the person in charge of the San Estevan Ferry in regards to Honduran National, Melvin Omar Pineda Gutierrez, 19, of San Estevan Village, jumping into the river and not resurfacing.
He reported to police that Gutierrez had reportedly been socializing with friends when he decided to jump into the new river for a swim, however, he did not resurface.
Police then arrived on the scene, where villagers along with the caller dived the river as they searched for him.
He was found two hours later and pronounced dead on the scene.
No foul play is suspected of his drowning.
