By BBN Staff: Today, the Embassy of Guatemala in Belize issued a release expressing its sincerest gratitude to the Government and people of Belize for their generous donations toward the victims whose lives were affected by Fuego Volcano that erupted early this month.
The Embassy also thanked the Belize Red Cross and the Belizean media.
On Friday, the Belize Government announced that Belize was donating $100,000 to Guatemala.
Last week, a group of volunteers from Benque Viejo del Carmen also mobilized and filled two large containers with donations for Guatemalan volcano victims.
Guatemala thanked organizer Nathaly Moh and her Volcano Relief Group as well as Belizeans who organized donation centers in a superb display of humanitarian solidarity and brotherhood.
Guatemalan authorities have processed all the donated items and have sent it to be distributed to the victims.
According to the release from the Embassy of Guatemala in Belize, the state of emergency has now evolved into a reconstruction phase to build houses for thousands of people that were left homeless.
The Guatemalan Government is currently making an international aid appeal to build 1000 homes at a cost of USD $10,000,000.
The government has assigned suitable land for this reconstruction process.
The Fuego Volcano that erupted on Sunday, June 3, 2018, claimed many lives, affected over 1.7 million Guatemalans, and was one of the most deadly volcano eruptions in decades.
