By BBN Staff: Today around 1 a.m., police officers were deployed to Silk Grass Village after reports were made that a Salvadoran National, Rene Godoy, 30, had chopped several villagers with a machete.
When police arrived at the scene, they conducted searches within the vicinity and found Godoy on the balcony of a second story building.
Several efforts were made to persuade him to come down from the building, but instead, he threw stones and bottles towards the officers including villagers.
He was eventually brought down and subdued and in the process, received several face injuries which resulted in him being transported to the Southern Regional Hospital, where after receiving treatment, he died an hour and a half later.
Three other men were also at the hospital receiving treatment for chopped wounds, inflicted by Godoy.
Reports were made to police that Godoy entered a home shortly after 1 a.m., under the influence of alcohol, where he assaulted one man with a machete and attempted to sexually assault a female.
While calling for help, her stepfather responded and as a result, Godoy chopped him and severed a finger from his right hand.
Since this morning, police have launched an intensive criminal investigation as well as an internal investigation into the incident.
