Consuelo Tzib retires after 4 decades of teaching

By BBN Staff: Consuelo Tzib, or ” Consi” as she is affectionately known in Santa Elena town has served as an educator and taught thousands of children during her forty year career. 

Tzib, a veteran educator, began her career at the age of sixteen in San Antonio village, Cayo in 1978. At the beginning of her profession, Tzib taught at all levels at the Primary School. 

At that time, Tzib had to take her exams to qualify for teach. She took her first Teacher’s exam,  then second class exam and first class teachers exam. Tzib qualified to teach in Belize after successfully completing the exams. 

In 1986, Tzib went to further her education at the Belize Teacher’s College. There, Tzib studied for two years and then completed her one year internship and thesis. Upon successful completion, she obtained a diploma from the Belize Teacher’s College and a Certificate from the University of the West Indies. 

Tzib returned home to Cayo and was employed at Sacred Heart Primary School where she taught in the Infant division for 13 years. 

In 2001, Tzib was transferred to the Santa Elena Primary School, where she taught for the next 17 years becoming a pillar of education in the community. 

Throughout her forty years, Tzib has touched the lives of many students in San Ignacio and Santa Elena who have now become prominent members of society, including journalists, doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, teachers etc. 

Her motto continues to be,” All children can learn, they learn at their own pace.” 

Consi is married to Julio Tzib, another lifetime educator and has two daughters, Patricia Nadia Tzib and Nadini Tzib. 

Thank you for your dedication, humility and respect, and for being an inspiration to thousands of students with your invaluable contribution to the development of education in Belize.
