Woman shot in Belize city was not intended target

BBN Staff:  Police have issued an update on a shooting which occurred on the south side of Belize city on Tuesday where Ambrosa Bernardez was shot while socializing with friends in the area.

According to police, a group of people were socializing at a bridge near the canal side when a man rode up to the location and fired several shots in their direction. Police say he was aiming towards a male in the group. Unfortunately, Bernardez was shot to her left shoulder instead.

Police say the area is a known hang out location, and at the time, children were also in the area.

It is believed that the shooter was socializing with the group earlier when an altercation between two men happened. The assailant reportedly left and returned with a gun, perpetrating the shooting.

Bernardez is currently in a stable condition.

Police have one suspect detained, who they believe fired the shots, however, cops are asking that the witnesses come in to identify the culprit and give a statement to mount a case against him.

Police investigations are ongoing.
