Posted: Saturday, July 14, 2018. 12:00 p.m. CST.

By BBN Staff:  According to reports, at least three officers from the Elections and Boundaries office in Cayo were traveling from Duckrun village when they were involved in a road traffic accident.

Sources tell BBN that a complaint had been filed earlier in the day against the officer driving at the time of the accident.

He was allegedly involved in a confrontation with members of the PUP committee, who were observing the re-registration process in Buena Vista village. Members of the PUP committee had also accused the officer in question of being intoxicated while on duty.

BBN has been provided a recording which purportedly captures a portion of the confrontation. The PUP committee then reportedly sought advice from an attorney as tensions escalated.

The PUP committee also reported the confrontation to the Chief Elections Officer.

The accident occured shortly before 12 midnight. BBN’s sources also said the officer was seen leaving the San Ignacio police station, after the accident had occurred.

Breaking Belize News will request an official report on this incident from police.
