By BBN Staff: Shortly after 4:40 p.m. on Friday, Belize City police arrived at a scene on St. Joseph Street where Nyrere Parachue, 23, had reportedly been shot to the head after setting chase to an armed assailant, who had recently just held him at gunpoint and robbed him of his folder.
According to police, Parachue an employee of Pitts Law Firm had just picked up a delivery from Vital Statistics Office and was riding back to work when he was approached by a male person while traveling on Freetown Road.
He was then held at gunpoint and the assailant demanded that he hand over his folder.
As a result, he relinquished the parcel, but soon after the assailant made his escape towards the vicinity of the Flag monument near Pallotti High School, Parachue decided to follow him.
It was not until they were around the BAHA area on St. Joseph Street that the robber turned around and fired a single shot injuring him in the head.
Parachue was then transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) where he is reportedly in a stable condition.
Police investigation continues.
