Belize: Independent Sovereign Movement Meets

By Richard Harrison: The #BelizeIndependentSovereign movement met this past Saturday in Belmopan, at the offices of Hummingbird Group Ltd.

This non-political citizens committee aims to convince 15,000 Belizeans that they should make their way to Belmopan on September 21, to celebrate Belize’s self-determination, independence and sovereignty in grand style…in a way Belize has never seen…in a way that shows a happy, humble, kind, friendly and peaceful loving people to the world…asking them yet again…to continue to support Belize’s independence and sovereignty over all its territory…especially those countries that did not support us in 1981 when we became independent…especially Israel, USA and Guatemala.

This committee was formed out of the backdrop of Belize being in a process of deciding to submit the border dispute with Guatemala to the ICJ, a final decision due in April 2019 when a referendum will be held.

The group believes that this independence day of 2018 will be the most historic…because Belizeans need to be more united than ever…to face and overcome the challenges facing our independence and sovereignty….and never before in the history of Belize have more than 10,000 Belizean’s been gathered together.

The purpose is to UNITE all Belizeans…regardless of political persuasion…whether they are leaning towards NO or YES to the ICJ…because in the end…only a unified Belize can face and overcome these challenges.

The committee is mandated to reach out to the central and local governments of Belize…the National Celebrations Committee…the various government and private organizations, unions, associations, schools, political organizations, businesses and individuals who must join to make this massive UNITY a reality…professionally managed…and safe for all families to attend…without fear of violence or political victimization.

The vision is for the capital City of Belmopan to be filled to overflowing from 9am to 1pm…so that participants can still head back to their municipalities for ongoing celebrations where they are planned.

The people line the path of a massive floats and peoples parade…showcasing everything Belizean…small, medium and large…from loaded sugarcane, oranges, banana, rice and flour trucks covered with school kids sharing small portions with the public….cattle trucks and 200 horsemen with flags….to farm machinery with corn, beans, chickens, etc…tourism resorts and operators floats…processing companies floats of beer, rum, soft drinks, juices, meats, diary, pepper sauces, spices, chocolates, furniture, etc….schools, colleges, universities, unions, sports teams, fisheries floats, marching bands, nurses, policemen, radio stations and niteclubs flots with DJs, live bands, beauty models, call centers, airlines, banks, insurance companies, credit unions, architectural and engineering floats, embassies of friendly countries, churches, NGOs, voluntary organizations, distribution companies, petroleum companies, etc

This opportunity will be used to create professional photography and videography products for use in social media, print, radio, TV and electronic media worldwide. International media will be invited to broadcast our massive UNITY demonstration live to the world.

As the theme is SELF-DETERMINATION, INDEPENDENCE AND SOVEREIGNTY…the group will push the idea of every patriotic Belizean family financing its way to Belmopan in their private cars…decorated with Belize flags and images…no matter how humble. We will also request our bus companies support by giving discount on all routes to and from Belmopan for that day…also the water taxi companies. Where possible we will coordinate sponsors and transportation to facilitate movement of people…but every group can seek out their own sponsor.

The committee will be seeking sponsors of prizes for the floats and performances…so that there is competition and reward for creating and innovating the best of Belize. They will meet regularly and provide continuous updates.
