Louisville students to build home for needy family in Belize

Posted: Tuesday, July 17, 2018. 11:54 am CST.

BBN Staff: Three football players, students of Central High School in Louisville, Kentucky in the US, will be visiting Belize soon on a 10-day trip to not only learn about the country’s culture, but also to build a home for a needy local family.

Raymond Green, Central High School’s principal, said the trip is a great opportunity to explore and live beyond their neighborhoods and communities. He said the trip is meant to inspire the young students to become leaders.

Apart from their commitment to building a home and performing an act of goodwill before leaving, the boys will also tour a cacao plantation and learn how to make chocolate. They’ll also be taken on a tour of some of Belize’s iconic Maya ruins.

The students are also interested in learning about the ancestral heritage of the Mayan people and the other cultures that settled in Belize and how it connects to the ancestry of African Americans in the US.
