By BBN Staff: Last night Belizeans at home and at the Belize Civic Center were disappointed after our national basketball lost in its quest to 2018 championship of the International Federation of Basketball (FIBA) Americup 2021 Central American pre-qualifiers.
Costa Rica held Belize to 52 points while putting up 58 points. Belize led in scoring until the final minutes of the fourth quarter approached.
Charles Wayne Garcia led team Belize in scoring with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Kay Shomarie Martinez Fairclough, meanwhile, led team Costa Rica with 15 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
Belize scored 8 points off turnovers while Costa Rica scored 18.
Belize also scored 13 points on second chance points while Costa Rica scored 7.
Costa Rica outscored Belize in fast break points with 11 to 9.
Costa Rica’s bench was the difference maker, scoring 27 points, while Belize’s bench scored an underwhelming 13 points.
At the end of last night’s match Belize was issued silver medals. Belizeans at home and abroad, however, have expressed pride in the team for playing hard and giving it their all.
