By BBN Staff: For weeks we have been reporting on a stalemate between the Orange Walk (OW) Town Council and the National Sports Council (NSC) regarding the use of the People’s Stadium for this year’s Fiestarama.
However, that is now water under the bridge as the parties involved have settled the dispute.
Today OW Mayor, Kevin Bernard, and his team met with Deputy Prime Minister, Patrick Faber and a team from the NSC.
At the end of the meeting it was agreed that the council will now pay $2,000 to use the stadium. This payment will go as part of operational expenses to the NSC.
Additionally, the council will pay a refundable security deposit of $2,000.
According to a statement by the Orange Walk Town Council, this deposit will be, “returned after inspection of the grounds is made after the event.”
The Orange Walk Town Council and the Fiesterama Committee thanked the Deputy Prime Minister and the National Sports Council for allowing it, “To express its opinions and for reaching this favorable agreement.”
Fiestarama will be held at the People’s Stadium on July 28th and 29th.
