Activists launch Belize Brain Awareness Society

BBN Staff:  On Saturday, July 28, a group of activists joined together and launched the Belize Brain Awareness Society.

The founder of the group is Kaylia Nunez. Nunez has suffered two brain aneurysms and is now on a quest to help victims of mental and neurological disorders.

According to Nunez, the society is being formed to assist patients who suffer from mental illnesses, depression and anxiety.

The board of the society comprises of 11 directors. Seven of the directors are medical doctors, a psychiatric nurse, a counselor and a nutritionist.

Persons who suffer from depression, anxiety and mental disorders are invited to join the group.

Members pay a one-time yearly fee as follows: $10 for students, $30 for general and $200 for 10 persons in a family, business or corporate.

The contributions are for patients who are in need of brain CAT scans and MRI.

The society is already planning its first activity for August 30, a free clinic day at the ITVET compound in Belize city.
