By BBN Staff: Over the weekend, the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk was the venue for entertainment for the entire family courtesy the annual Fiestarama fair.
Despite the many reported obstacles in obtaining the venue, the fair carried on as per normal and according to Orange Walk’s Mayor, Kevin Bernard, it was a huge success.
This morning, Bernard took to social media to express his gratitude to everyone that made the fair a success.
“ This past weekend’s Fiestarama was a tremendous success. Some people are saying it was the biggest and best yet, and I know the crowd was huge. I am extremely proud of the way the event has grown. It is now truly community-based, featuring the very best of Orange Walk. It allows our businesspersons and entrepreneurs to shine. It brings people together from all over this country for clean, family fun and entertainment and of course there is also fun for the more grown-up,” Bernard said.
Furthermore, Bernard thanked all the supporters, town council team and attendees.
All funds generated from the fair are used to provide employment opportunities to youth in the Orange Walk community.
According to Bernard, the Orange Walk town council has employed as many as 150 youths to work in the community so they can earn money for back to school expenses.
In relation to the previous obstacles in obtaining the venue for the fair, Bernard explained that “ we can’t continue to be consumed by politics. When there are good things happening in our communities, regardless of which political party is leading the way, we must support. When the people benefit, especially our youth as is the case with Fiestarama, we cannot get mired in petty politics.”
“We must shake off the nastiness of partisan politics, which to me is like a yoke dragging us down,” he ended.
