By BBN Staff:  This morning, Taiwan News reported that Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-Wen will embark on her fifth state visit in August.

President Tsai will visit Paraguay and Belize from August 12 – 20. She will also visit Los Angeles and Houston, USA on her way from Taiwan to the two countries.

The visit is focused on President Tsai attending the presidential inauguration in Paraguay scheduled for August 15.

Paraguay is the only South American nation that recognizes Taiwan as a sovereign state. This is Tsai’s second time visiting Paraguay. The two countries established diplomatic ties in 1957.

On August 16, President Tsai is scheduled to depart Paraguay and arrive in Belize.

The delegation will visit Belize from August 16-18.

President Tsai will be hosted by Belize’s Governor General Colville Young and Prime Minister Dean Barrow.

Taiwan’s Vice Foreign Minister, Jose Lui told Taiwan News that President Tsai will address the congress of Belize.

Earlier this month, Belize hosted Taiwan’s Foreign Minister, Joseph Wu.

Belize and Taiwan established diplomatic ties in 1989 and have enjoyed strong bilateral relations ever since.

The visit is expected to further strengthen relations between the two countries.
