BERT celebrates 20 years anniversary

BBN Staff: The Belize Emergency Response Team (BERT) celebrated its 20th anniversary today with an open day at its office on Sunrise Ave. in Belize City.

At the open day, BERT staff showcased the many services they provide as well as some of the equipment used in the field. The event also featured free blood pressure and blood sugar checks and a raffle.

Leon Seguro, Fleet Supervisor, and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), explained that the work of BERT staff was so demanding that the EMT’s could not be present to share in the celebrations, because there was a fire, a road traffic accident and several stroke victims today, which had the majority of the staff out in the field.

“When BERT says that it’s celebrating 20 years, it means that since this door opened on August 1, 1998, it has not closed. There is always someone here working at the office, and teams ready to deploy,” Seguro said.

BERT’s services include land and air ambulance services, and training in basic first aid, basic life support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric  Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (PALS).
